If anyone wants to know what the Art Director does on a movie, see Gattaca. It lost the Academy Award in that category to Titanic. Yawn.
Gattaca’s art direction is a master class with it’s attention to thematic detail, inspired sets and locations, and icy Art Deco future/past hybrid reality. It is also a superb film by every other measure from it’s excellent cast, to it’s chilling eugenic proposals, to it’s unspecified homoerotic subject matter.
